Engine 29-1


Engine 29-1 is a 1999 KME custom pumper. Engine 29-1 is the first due out engine on structure fires, fire alarms, and investigations. It is also our RIT response engine. Built on an "Excel XLFD" cab and chassis, the combination of the beefy "N14 Cummins Turbo Diesel" sporting 460-horse power and 1550 ft-lbs of torque and an Allison automatic transmission power West Mead 2's workhorse.

The full tilt cab has seating for eight, five being SCBA seats. It is fully air conditioned to offer rehab at fire scenes. In cab equipment includes an ICC thermal imaging camera, 5 hand lights, 4 portable radios, 5 MAST tools, trauma kit, O2 kit, and various other EMS equipment.

Engine 29-1 has a Hale Q2 two-stage pump rated at 2000 gallons per minute and carries 1500 gallons of water. It is has a Hale Foam Master 5.0 foam injection system. There is a 30 gal class A cell and a 30 class B cell on board. It can flow either class foam through the four speed lays and the deck gun. All of the attack lines on 29-1 are 200 ft in length. There are three 2 ½" preconnects (yellow, blue, white), a 2" preconnect (red), and two 1 ¾" preconnects (orange and red stripe on white). 29-1 also carries 1200 ft of 4" supply line. Engine 29-1 is also equipped with an onboard PTO generator with 200 ft cord reels off each side and one 1500-watt telescoping quartz light on each side of the dunnage area.

29-1 carries a full compliment of "Engine Company" and some "Truck Company" equipment including a K-12, vent saw, 2 sets of irons, Hydra-ram forcible entry tool, PPV fan, portable generator, lock out/tag out kit, and other miscellaneous hand tools. It carries a 24 ft extension ladder, a 14 ft roof ladder, and a 10 ft attic ladder along with several length pike poles. Some specialty equipment on board includes haul and lower rope systems, a high-rise pack, a DeWalt 24 volt battery powered sawzall and a Holmatro BCT (battery powered combi tool).
